What is facial trauma?

  • Wound or injury to the head and neck region
  • Can be:
    • Damage to teeth
      • Knocked out or displaced
    • Fracture to upper and/or lower jaws
    • Cuts to the soft tissue both inside and outside of the mouth
    • Fracture of other facial bones
      • Cheek
      • Forehead

What should you do?

  • Proper assessment is key
  • Depending on the injury, triage can be done either in office or at the Emergency Department of your local hospital
  • Treatment can vary from non-surgical to surgical

Goals of treating the trauma patient:

  • Restore form and function
  • Restore pre-trauma esthetics as best as possible
